Welcome to the Ministry of EAC PDF Print E-mail
The Ministry of East African Community coordinates the activities of East African Community. In delivering on this mandate, the Ministry strives to develop policies, projects and programmes of the EAC. It coordinates, monitors and evaluates the implementation of EAC policies, projects and programmes and liaises with the public and private sector stakeholders on EAC matters. Yet it also maintains linkages between the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) and the Kenya National Assembly and maintains linkages between EAC institutions, line ministries and other related institutions.

The Ministry also facilitates the review of Treaties, Protocols and Agreements under the EAC in liaison with other stakeholders, promotes Public and Privates Sector Partnerships for financing of the EAC programmes and projects and disseminates EAC policies and programmes.

But that is not all. It also conducts advocacy, image building and publicity campaigns and the EAC, and implements the recommendations of the Fast Tracking of the East African Political Federation.

Without doubt, the East African region is endowed with vast resources. It boasts a natural resource base of extensive fertile lands, minerals, water energy, forestry and wildlife resources, which enviably offers great scope for agricultural, industrial, tourism and trade opportunities. The Partner States are democratic, free market economies and the rule of law, peace and security prevails.

These factors combine to position the region as a competitive and attractive market area with enormous investment opportunities in agro-processing, mining, tourism and fishing, manufacturing, tourism and fishing industries, manufacturing and services as well as investment in infrastructural projects like roads, railways, telecommunications, energy and Lake Victoria development.

The overriding objective of East African Community is to promote sustainable development of the region and create a prosperous internationally competitive, secure stable and politically united region. The five EAC Partner States are well aware that by pooling their resources and potential, they are well on their way to realizing common development goals more easily than when they work alone.

Experience worldwide has shown that countries come together mainly because of economic reasons. However, the case of EAC is unique. The common history, language, culture and personal ties bring into play deep-rooted and long-standing relationships that the Partner States could exploit, and are actually exploiting, to deepen cooperation in a broad range of political, economic, social and cultural programmes. According to the EAC Treaty, the vision of the Community is to be realized in an incremental progression through stages starting with Customs Union, Common Market, Monetary Union and ultimately Political Federation. The Ministry of East African Community is duly playing its role in helping in the realization of this vision.
